What Our Patients
Are Saying
|
"We had been trying to conceive for about 15 months before visiting OHS. We had tried Clomid alone and in combination with IUI. In addition to infertility, I also suffered from Hypothyroidism and a terrible sleeping problem. I was taking prescription Ambien about three to four days per week for the last few years.
I was referred to OHS by a friend and patient of OHS, she had successfully conceived with their help. I really had no expectations for the acupuncture treatment. I was getting very frustrated with my infertility and thought I would give it a try. I was so thrilled with my treatment at OHS. Immediately after the first visit, I felt much calmer... the stress of infertility was at times overwhelming. I had also made the decision to stop taking Ambien. After just a couple treatments, I was sleeping soundly without medication for the first time in years! More importantly, after one month we conceived our first child!
I have, and will continue to, recommend the services of OHS to anybody who can benefit."

OHS eNewsletter - September 2009
This month I am excited to share with you that, effective October 1st, we will be changing the name of our practice to Indiana Reproductive Acupuncture.
When beginning the practice five years ago, as Organic Health Services, it was a general practice treating patients with a wide variety of conditions. After moving to Indianapolis in 2005, I began seeing more and more fertility patients and realized that this was a specialty where I was making a genuine difference in people's lives. Four years later, fertility and pregnancy wellness are all that my colleagues and I treat and the name of the practice should reflect that.
Our new name also reinforces our commitment to the field, our patients, and their doctors. Indiana Reproductive Acupuncture is the only acupuncture practice in Indiana dedicated to fertility and pregnancy wellness, and we will strive to remain leaders in the field through research, education, proven success, and most importantly, the highest level of patient care.
We look forward to starting the next chapter in our story, and thank you for your continued support.
Take care and be well,
David Youran

Your Cycle Explained by Traditional Chinese Medicine
Think you know everything about your menstrual cycle? Take a look from another perspective. A leading acupuncturist and practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) explains the map of the monthly cycle according to this Eastern science.
The Western perspective on the monthly cycle is the one most of us are familiar with, but it's not the only one. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has its own take on menstruation and motherhood. Read a week-by-week description of the reproductive cycle according to TCM.
Is Chronic Stress Affecting Your Fertility?
Nonstop pressure and chronic stress may have a significant effect on fertility and may prevent some women from getting pregnant, according to experts. "I like to say a little of this and a little of that is worse than you think for your reproductive system," said Dr. Sarah Berga, of Emory University School of Medicine.
She said it starts with the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that controls the release of hormones. "Your brain is hard to fool. If you're under eating, overworking, and overexercising, the hypothalamus is, in essence, keeping a running tally of what you're doing," Berga said. "Even though you can say to yourself, 'I'm not stressed', your hypothalamus may come up with a different answer."
If the hypothalamus senses stress, the messages sent to the ovary to release eggs may be interrupted and cause stress-induced infertility. It's an interesting process, but one that patients and even some doctors may find difficult to accept.

What Happens to Extra Embryos After IVF?
By the time she was in her 40s, Andrea Cinnamond was afraid she'd never be a mother. Then came the day in 2005 her daughter was born through in vitro fertilization, followed two years later by twin sons. Today, Kaitlin, Jack, and Aidan bounce around like Ping-Pong balls through their Boston, Massachusetts, home.
Cinnamond, now 49, and her husband are grateful for their healthy children and the medical science that helped create them. Yet she's haunted by the three embryos that were left over. Like many women struggling with infertility, Cinnamond was delighted when a laboratory took sperm and egg and provided five chances for a second child after Kaitlin's birth. In many ways, infertility is a numbers game – more embryos created means more tries for success.
She was asked in the beginning about the matter of surplus embryos, but how could she think about those she might not want when her thoughts were consumed by the children she longed for?
